YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Commemoration of the International Youth Day held by WODIA in 

collaboration with Agbado Okeodo Local Council Development Area 

(LCDA) of Lagos State on August 12, 2009.  

The United Nations Designated International Youth Day was marked by empowerment of 

more than 400 youths in the Agbado Okeodo  LCDA. Sewing machines, grinding machines, 

bursaries and loans were given to several youths. Crutches and wheel chairs were also 

presented to disabled younger people. The occasion witnessed attendance of 

over 1,000 persons made up of youth and adults; representative of the 

Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports  and Social Development and the 

State Ministry of  Commerce and Industry. An Attorney at Law from 

Houston Texas, USA, Mrs. Ann Gbenjo, an International Participant   

was in attendance at the occasion.   

Dr. M.A. Ojo, a Psychiatrist Consultant from the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital , 

Yaba, Lagos (NOHIL) who was invited by WODIA, was present and lectured the 

youths on the dangers of drug and alcoholic addiction, mental health  and HIV/AIDS. 

Four corporate organizations were in attendance to support WODIA in kind by 

giving their products to the massive audience free of charge. The organizations 

were Fan Milk PLC., Intercontinental Distilleries  PLC., Bel-Impex Limited

 (Member of Boulos Group of companies) and Zolon Health Care Limited 

(Member of Emzor pharmaceuticals PLC). The Nigeria Red Cross Society 

attended and paraded at the occasion.

Integrated Micofinance Bank Limited was present at the program and gave out 

soft loans to needy youths and indigent persons who had previously applied for the facilities.

 Widows were presented with cheques of N10, 000:00 (ten thousand Naira only = $66 )

each for family support while several aged members of the community were given 

little money for personal up keep by the LCDA.
