Some Financial and Micro finance Institutions in Nigeria were invited to participate in the program by sponsoring the project and actively involved in the enlightenment exercise.
At the major seminar which was the Phase 1, Major Participating Organizations mounted exhibitions of their products and produced speakers that addressed the audience on the available financial products of their organizations and how such facilities could be easily accessed.
Few other major companies invited attended and supported the initiative by showcasing their products to loan beneficiaries wishing to invest into their products for business purposes. The Phase I of the project was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Multipurpose Hall of EKO FM, LTV 8 Premises, Ikeja, Lagos. See A Brief Report of The Program Here.
Phase II This involved carrying the same message to the communities, market places, high density areas, local governments, higher Institutions and many other places. It was a replica of what happend at the Major seminar except that the second phase was localized. Each Sponsoring Organization also produced a Speaker and mounted an exhibition of the compan's products.
The phase was moved from place to place till 25th March, 2008. Where the public campaign held in a market place, sponsoring organizations were requested to retain a stand and a staff at the venue for about 7 days after the ceremony to enable the traders ask questions, get more familiar with the banking procedures and possibly open an account instantly in order to make WODIA's effort fruitful.
WODIA contacted the market leaders and the beneficiaries after the program for project evaluation.
RESULTS: At least more than 4 million people heard about the program in Lagos State. This could be either from the media, their different communities or through words of mouth. If 1(one) percent of this figure responded positively, then additional 40,000 people would patronize the services of the micro-credit delivery institutions. This will translate into more profits for the organizations, they will open more branches, employ more workers, buy more vehicles for their operations thereby creating wealth for other sectors. In no time, extreme poverty will be conquered and life made easier for the Nigerian grassroots.
